The HIMT College of Pharmacy has taken up challenges to create potential and productive research culture in the Institute.
Our Pharmacy College has excellent state- of-the-art laboratories with highly sophisticated Instruments such as UV spectrophotometer, HPLC, Brookfield Viscometer, etc. Faculty members and Research scholars are constantly exploring new areas in drug delivery, drug designing, mechanisms of drug action etc.
The student should learn how to conduct pre-formulation studies in a stepwise manner for APIs. They will also learn to design formulations for special populations like paediatrics and geriatrics. They will be able to perform stability testing for dosage form, selection of suitable packaging material and also study drug excipient interactions through various analytical techniques. The course outcome is that students apply scientific principles in a range of formulation techniques by using various instruments like Hot Air Oven, Electronic Balance, Table Punching Machine, Mechanical Stirrer, and Magnetic Stirrer.
The students should learn how to formulate a research problem and design a suitable methodology to find its solution. The student should learn how to collect the literature required for the research work. They should learn to formulate various dosage forms, novel drug delivery systems and evaluate various parameters related to the specific dosage forms. The course outcome is to develop novel drug delivery systems and their evaluation using sophisticated instruments like Brookfield viscometer, Picodrop, Rheometer, Lyophilizer, Dissolution Test, Picodrop, and Deep Freezer.
The students should learn the effect of various drugs on animal models and understand the calculation of LD50 and ED50 through experimental models. They should also be able to handle various statistical softwares. They will also learn how to estimate various biochemical parameters. The course outcome is that students understand the general concept of experimental pharmacology and the drug receptor interaction with the help of various experimental models on animals by using various instruments like Student Physiograph, Digital Plethysmometer, Bioanalyser, Actophotometer, Convulsiometer, Swimming test apparatus, Digital Plus maze apparatus, and Digital Tele thermometer.
The students should learn how to formulate a research problem and design a suitable methodology to find its solution. The student should learn how to collect the literature required for the research work. They should be able to select suitable experimental models on animals for various pharmacological activities and their statistical analysis and to write and compile the original thesis report. The course outcome is that students are able to select experimental models for various pathophysiological conditions as well as to analyze and interpret data by using various instruments like Swimming Test Apparatus, Lagendorff's Apparatus, and Chemical Analyser.
The main objective of the course is to understand and consummate the basic fundamental principles by performing experiments related to various unit operations like fluid flow, filtration, centrifugation, crystallisation, air-conditioning, industrial hazards and safety precautions, materials used in plant construction, evaporation, drying, distillation etc. The Course Outcome is to give students with different background to conduct basic practicals in chemistry & biochemistry as it relates to drug discovery by using various instruments like Flame photometer (Digital), Hot Air Oven, Water Bath, Centrifuge, and Digital Balance.
The objective of this course is to understand the principles involved in limit tests, salt analysis and some inorganic preparations and also to learn & master fundamental organic chemistry laboratory techniques, to perform synthetic reactions, workups, and purifications, to learn how to operate instrumentation and analyse spectral data, learn and use a molecular modelling program, and to write original lab reports in a professional manner. The course outcome is that students get knowledge about physical, chemical and storage of organic and inorganic pharmaceuticals by using various instruments like Water Bath, Hot Air Oven, Centrifuge, Digital Balance, and Nessler Cylinders.
The practical application of medicinal chemistry is the first step of process of Pharmaceutical formulation. The medicinal chemistry practical relates to the uses of chemistry in modern society in the development, production and analysis of bioactive compounds. The course outcome is that students get hands on experience in the synthesis of medicinal/ organic/ natural compounds involving different mechanisms by using various instruments like Magnetic Stirrer, Rotary Vacuum Flask Evaporator, Double Distillation Unit, UV – Cabinet, Hot Air Oven
The objective of this course is to understand the pharmacology of drugs with special reference to their mechanism, pharmacological actions, drug interactions, adverse effects and uses. Also to study commonly used laboratory animals and instruments and to explain the use of computer simulated softwares for pharmacology practical’s to minimize the use of living animals. The Course outcome is that students get knowledge about animal attitude & handling and understand the drug response curve of various drug on various tissue preparation by using various instruments like Digital Actophotometer, Analgesiometer, Digital Tele Thermometer, and Muscles Stimulator.
To learn and master fundamentals of Pharmacognosy that will examine the Herbal and fabricated preparations. Also to discuss the processes of standardization of natural products. The course outcome is to obtain knowledge about classification and nomenclature of medicinal plants, as well as several active substances, their chemical and biological properties by using various instruments like Muffle furnace, Moisture Balance, Microtome, Hot Air Oven, and Microscope (compound).
The objective of the course is to bestow students with the knowledge and microbiological skills by practicing and understanding the experiments. The course outcome is to acquire knowledge about the concept of sterilization, preparation of media, culturing of microorganisms and micro bioassay by using various instruments like Laminar Air flow, B.O.D. Incubator U.V. cabinet, and Tissue culture station.
The objective of the course is to provide a general preparation of dosage forms methodology and working knowledge of basic pharmaceuticals steps. To understand the pharmaceutical principles and calculations of measuring the various volumetric formulations, to study the quantity sufficient and quantity taken methodology to learn how to prepare and use various prepared dosage forms. The course outcome is to prepare and label various pharmaceutical dosage forms and extraction procedures by using various instruments like Dissolution test apparatus Single, Mechanical stirrer, Disintegration test apparatus, and Magnetic Stirrer
The main objective of the course is to understand and consummate the basic fundamental principles by performing experiments related to surface tension measurement, viscosity determination and flow properties of various kinds of powders. The course outcome is to understand the fundamental principles of physics influencing the behaviour of various delivery systems like interfacial tension, micromeritics properties etc. by using various instruments like Densitometer, Optical Microscope, and Hardness Tester (Monsanto, Pfizer)
The main objective of the course is to understand and consummate the basic fundamental principles by performing experiments related to solutions, suspensions, emulsions, creams, dentifrices etc. The Course Outcome is to understand the practical techniques for the analysis and quantification of pharmaceutical products/ evaluation of container- closures and stability testing by using various instruments like Humidity Chamber, Friability test apparatus, Tray dryer, and Dissolution Test Apparatus (6 Stage).
The main objective of the course is to understand and consummate the basic fundamental principles by performing experiments related to capsule filling, microencapsulation, granulation, formulation, compression and evaluation of solid dosage forms like tablets and capsules. The course outcome is that students will be equipped with skills in processing of chemical/ biological drugs into dosage forms like tablets, capsules, ointments, injectable and liquids etc. by using various instruments like Tablet punching machine, Sieve shaker, Bottle Filling Machine, Double cone blender, and Bottle washing machine.
